Arts Week - The Summation

The week of March 30th to April 3rd saw CBS Ennistymon’s second annual Arts Week go virtual!

Students were asked to submit any samples of work from home that they created, whether it was artwork, singing or dancing… the choice was theirs! Over the week, we received 20 submissions as well as lots of engagement with chef Neville’s French toast cooking demo. The submissions ranged from poetry to painting and from singing to soccer skills!

We then asked our star-studded judging panel (Singer song writers Luka Bloom & Steve Wall, Musician Jon O’Connell, Jewellery designer  Rowena Sheen and  Poet Mary Kennelly) to offer their feedback and to nominate a junior and senior category winner. Each student then received constructive comments from the judges.

Our junior category winner was third year student Colm Linnane who managed to play not one, but two instruments in his submission- drum and bass.

Our senior category winner by unanimous decision was the talented 5th year student Micheál McInerney who submitted thought-provoking art work and a poem.

Luka Bloom wrote a short message for all students who submitted work:

“So, everybody here has a unique voice and a special talent.

Searching for your voice in art, whether musical, literary, or in visual, is a lifelong journey.

I am 64 and just beginning to get going!

You are all in different ways, great.

And I applaud you and congratulate you.

And I congratulate your teachers who encourage you to express yourselves in whatever artform  excites you.

I’m not a critic, nor an expert. Just another human who gets a thrill from seeing people play with their creative life force.

So I got something from every one of you.

Thank you.

You are great, and I wish you all the very best, and hope your pursuit of your artistic voice brings you much joy and reward,

Barry Moore(aka Luka!)”

Huge well done and thank you to all students who participated, a wonderful way to lift spirits during a difficult time.
