Our School
ERST schools promote equality of access and participation - in other words, children of any faith, or none, at every level of ability, of any nationality or ethnic grouping are all welcome in our schools.
I would like to welcome you to the CBS Ennistymon website, which I hope will provide you with a flavour of life in our school.
The Christian Brothers have a long and proud tradition in education in Ennistymon. In 1824, at the request of Rev. Peter O’Loughlin, Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice sent three Brothers to the town. Their mission was to establish a school for the Catholic boys of the area who had no opportunity of receiving any education. Secondary pupils continued to attend classes in the old building until 1970 when a new school was built on the “top of the hill”.
We are a voluntary Catholic Secondary School for boys under the trusteeship of the Edmund Rice Schools Trust, focusing on the importance of a value-based Christian education in the Catholic tradition. Our school will endeavour to educate our students so that as emerging adults they can participate fully in community and family life, work and leisure.
CBS Ennistymon is proud to be part of the Edmund Rice Schools Trust (ERST). ERST Schools actively promote partnership in 96 Irish school communities. We pride ourselves in the multicultural pluralism that is evident in our schools.
