In preparation for filling up their college courses choices, we have been busy visiting open days and welcoming guest speakers!
So far this year, Leaving Cert students have visited and attended talks and tours at NUI Galway, University of Limerick, L.I.T and Mary Immaculate College open days.
We have also welcomed Trevor Slattery who spoke about his career journey from working in the army and fire services to owning a gym. Next week, we will welcome a speaker from Johnson and Johnson about apprenticeship opportunities with their company. We also welcome a guest speaker from NUIG next week. December and January will also see us welcoming speakers from GMIT, LIT and UL.
Before midterm, 5th year students had a talk on careers in Computer Science from a UL professor. He spoke to us about the many opportunities that arise from studying computer science and the challenges to expect when studying in this area.
We are waiting to receive a set of new books developed by NUIG which aims to introduce the idea of career choices and the language around courses and university to younger students and we hope to share this with third year students in the New Year.
TY/5th and 6th year students are regularly being made aware of taster days and opportunities that they can avail of.
