The purpose of Culture Day and Night is to wrap up in culture, as venues and public spaces across the island of Ireland opened their doors to host a programme of free day-time and late-night entertainment, as part of an all-island celebration of arts, heritage and culture.
The students presented a variety of acts in the Teach Ceoil, Ennistymon at 12 noon on the 20th September 2019. The event was kicked off with the CBS Trad Band, playing a wonderful set of Ryan’s Slip Jig, the Humours of Ennistymon Jig and Cooley’s Reel. This was followed by a presentation on sport in their culture, pop music, piano solo’s, a recital of Seamus Heaney’s ‘Blackberry Picking’, a discussion on creativity in education, and the CBS rock band performed an original song created last year in school called ‘Walk Before You Run’.
On the day a video compiled in school was shown: this video involved students and staff discussing what culture means to them.
Culture is in integral element of our identity; this was reflected by a wonderfully diverse and captivating performance by the students of the CBS.
