This year was no exception either, with a thoughtful and prayerful ceremony celebrated by Bishop Fintan Monahan, who was gently persuaded to cross the border from his domain in the Killaloe Diocese to the Galway Diocese. The theme of this year’s mass was ‘Being Connected’.
An array of musicians, singers and readers all from the Ennistymon CBS classes gave an excellent account of themselves which greatly added to the special occasion. All students and staff from the school were joined for the Mass which took place on Friday the 12th of October last, by many parents and past pupils.
In his address to the students, Bishop Monahan encouraged them to look out for each other and help each other during the forthcoming school year. He encouraged them to show kindness, compassion and forbearance to all fellow students. He explained the significance of symbolism which has deep roots in the Christian tradition and explained to the students the meaning of his own coat of arms.
Bishop Fintan was ably assisted by Fr. Des Forde, while the choir was led by Emma Browne and Gerry Sexton was floor manager. Roseanne Healy did a superb job in organising the liturgy.
