Ennistymon CBS Do The Double

CBS Ennistymon experienced unprecedented success on the sportsfield this year.

Having reached unsuccessful football finals over the recent years , motivation was high to bring home the coveted cup this year. Kilrush, Kildysart and Kilkee stood in our way in the early rounds of the campaign, each putting up a worthy fight. With each match we improved immensely and were looking forward to meeting out neighbours and biggest rivals Lisdoonvarna in the final. The day was soaked in sunshine and our lads took to the field with all guns blazing. The contest was close from the throw in and we went in at half time a few points up. The second half separated the men from the boys when CBS upped their game and powered through the Spa boys to leave no doubt in anyones mind as to who were the better team. Led by the outstanding captain Damien O'Loughlin, the team had excellent perfromances from Darren Torpey , Jamesie O'Connor, Andrew Shannon and Sean Rouine  throughout.

The hurlers reached the final again this year, having suffered a heavy defeat in last years final at the hands of Tulla. This year we overcame Scarriff in a nail biting contest and were lucky to beat them by the minimum. Next up were Rice College who had defeated Tulla. Fortune wasn't on our side as we headed to Inagh GAA pitch for the game as Aidan Mccarthy was ruled out due to injury and Rice had a lot of top quality players. The game was extremeley competitive with only a point between the teams throughout. We had to fight to the end to finally finish off Rice and were delighted with a 1point victory once again. In the final we faced Killaloe. We had little experience of playing this side and were wary of them heading into the clash.  Having never won the Senior colleges hurling title and with the chance to do the double with the footballers motivation was high. We charged into the game and put a big score up on the board by half time. Killaloe piled the pressure on in the second half but we had enough done to secure victory! Captain Darren Cullinan collected the cup for the joyous Mono boys. Aidan Mccarthy, Marc Barry, Shane Wynne, Damien O Loughlin and Keith white all put in excellent performances on the day!
